Macro means big and the macronutrients are the food groups you need to consume in large amounts to provide your body with energy. The macronutrients are protein, carbohydrate and fat.

The micronutrients are required in much smaller amounts and are the collective term used to describe vitamins, minerals and other essential chemicals found in the food you eat. Whilst very healthful, the micronutrients do not provide any energy but are still essential for your wellbeing.
